My Philosophy on: Makeup

I must admit, I have very mixed feelings when it comes to makeup.
On one hand, I love it. It’s incredible just how it can transform one’s face and how, sometimes, it can really give you a confidence boost when you’re feeling down. Makeup opens a whole new world of creation, allowing you to embody different styles and give off different vibes. One day you can look and feel like a soft flower girl, the other like a deep and intense grungy girl. Sometimes it feels nice to explore a different look. Makeup also has a kind of soothing effect?… Am I the only to feel this??? Sometimes I’ll put makeup on just for the fun of it and get so absorbed into the mater that I’ll forget everything else. It’s quite relaxing. Personally, I don’t wear makeup to school, so when I’m heading out I love to put some on and feel glamoured up.
One of the reasons as to why I refuse to wear makeup daily is that I don’t want others to get used to my “makeup self”. Makeup adds color to your face, amplifies your features and hides your imperfections. For these very reasons, it isn’t rare that I’ve heard others being asked “Are you alright?” or been told that they “look tired” once they had no makeup on. This is why you may see some pictures of me wearing a lot of makeup, and others with none on. Heck, I don’t even own any foundation. Yet you can still catch me watching Youtube makeup tutorials and reviews for hours on end, cause knowing as much as possible about products I’ll never buy or use is important… right???

I’ve never been a fan of wearing a full face, or even seeing others with their face caked with makeup. On Instagram I see way too many pictures of people sporting a shitton of makeup, including false nails and eyelashes and I’ve always found that it was simply too much. Only once did I go to Sephora and get myself a small sample of foundation, and decided to try it on at home with some false lashes and whatnot. I ended up being late to my girl’s night, as I applied the makeup and basically removed it straight afterwards. I just didn’t look like me anymore. Some people love wearing a full face of makeup, some don’t : as long as you aren’t pushing me to do so, do whatever you want with your face.
Makeup is fun, but it can easily become a vicious cycle. This is why I think it should be used in moderation : a confidence boost is always good for self-esteem, but there’s no confidence boost like loving yourself and knowing that others love you for what you truly are.
Fun Fact about me : When I was in elementary school I promised myself that I would never wear makeup for any of my school pictures, and up to now I have kept that promise.
